Chit-chat: Simba Bako (Koldproduk)

simba bako koldproduk uproot records hush all under heavenMuseke found out a ton about Koldproduk and Simba Bako tells us more!
Museke: Sawubona! Unjani?
Simba: Ngiyaphila, m’fowethu.

Museke: How are things?
Simba: Not bad at all: God’s good.

Museke: Can you tell us about your background and family?
Simba: I was raised in a moderately liberal, Shona-speaking Christian household in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, where hard work and education were the backbone of what drove us.

Museke: How did you get the name Koldproduk?
Simba: Together with Wayne Berger, Mic Mann, Kaspa and I came up with the name and defined the elements that characterize a “koldproduk”. And for that reason, we’ll always remember what we were at the stage when we entered this entertainment industry – underdogs.

South Africa music countdown - July edition

Museke.com brings you more goodies and news you should know. We have compiled a selection of 20 South African artistes whose songs are hot at the moment. Feel free to add whichever songs or artistes we may have missed. In this July edition, we welcome South Africa's violin superstar, Incha as well as Les (formerly of the Jozi group) who has released a solo album. There are some of the usual suspects like Freshlyground and Kabelo as well. Malaika is still going strong on the charts and are bound to enjoy more airplay as we mourn their leader, Jabulani Ndaba who passed away earlier this week.

Here is the countdown/chart/song menu

Loyiso - Take me back, Blow your mind
Freshlyground - Pink Confetti, Baby Tonight
Malaika - Thelledi, Never change my mind
Kabelo - Take my time, Abongwana
Jamali - Ain't no mountain high enough

In-cha the violin superstar!

incha in-cha violin superstar nbmusic south africa mzansiDrum roll please! Welcome South Africa's newest and youngest superstar! In-cha. Incha is South Africa's answer to Miri Ben-Ari, only Miri is like 20 years older than this prodigy. In-Cha is South Africa’s very own self-proclaimed Violin Superstar. She's been described as the most exciting development in South African music. She started playing the violin at age 6 and is now making her own album on the back of this instrument. Think of the other African musicians who've made names by playing one instrument or the other. The drum, mbira, xylophone, kologo; here is one who is playing an instrument we may not identify as African. You remember the Chinese Makossa man? In-cha may be Chinese, but South Africa claims her as one of her own.

Nhlanhla brands herself, is Mafikizolo no more?

Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu Nciza MafikizoloMafikizolo and African music fans have to be wondering - has Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu Nciza of Mafikizolo fame gone solo? She launched her first solo album last year and is now the face of Sunsilk as she seeks to shed her Mafikizolo image and push her name more into the limelight.

She has even launched a fashion line called NN Vibes or NN Vintage (NN are her initials). She owns it with her husband, music mogul and co-owner of TS Records, Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza. Thembinkosi owns TS Records with popular radio and TV personality, DJ Sbu Leope.

Nhlanhla released her debut solo album titled Inguquko (Change) through TS Records. This was after Mafikizolo abandoned plans for a new album and Nhlanhla quit Kalawa Jazmee to join TS Records. Kalawa believes we'll see more Mafikizolo music in the future as she still remains a member of the Mafikizolo duo but for now Nhlanhla is enjoying a successful solo career.

In the meantime...

Kwaito musician Mgarimbe, real name Nkosinathi Mfeka, is behind bars after being arrested for child abuse by the police at Honeydew, north of Johannesburg.

Mfeka was arrested on Sunday after Sowetan alerted the police about the alleged ill-treatment of his four-year-old daughter. He will appear in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court today on a charge of physical abuse.

“Just a mere look at the child tells a story. You can tell that the child was physically abused,” West Rand police spokesman Captain S’phiwe Ndlovu said yesterday.
