Congolese music genres

So I hear a lot about Congolese music and arguably, it is the best selling music from Africa with popular artistes like Koffi Olomide, Papa Wemba, Kanda Bongo Man, Werra Son, Awilo Longomba, Makoma, Kaysha, etc.

Can anyone help us with the differences in the various music genres associated with the Democratic Republic of Congo?
How different is makossa from soukous, or zouk, or lingala, bikutsi, etc, etc?
