Oliver Mtukudzi - the concert man

Oliver Mtukudzi chimurenga zimbabwe music african concert I saw Oliver Mtukudzi perform over the weekend in San Francisco (Yoshi's). I missed a chance to see him perform once and after my friends who attended that concert praised him, I decided not to miss the Tuku man if he came to perform somewhere near me. The jury is out on Tuku, he's great in concert. The man was full of energy, he was great on his guitar and his Black Spirits band backed him up really well.

Oliver Mtukudzi is the best-selling artiste in Zimbabwe and probably its most famous musician. Tuku, as he is affectionately called, was the first African musician to feature on the cover of the TIME AFRICA magazine in April 2003. The central article was entitled 'The People’s Voice?' and talked about how Zimbabwean musicians sing about change amidst all the problems in the country.

Something about you baby
Has touched me deep inside
I can't explain it to ya
No matter how much i try to stay away
I know that it's in me
I shall never be the same
You know we run around in circles
Pretending it aint true
Yet I know everything I've ever wanted is in you
You turn away, tell me that its a lie
Aah I keep wondering why

Mmmm

Wandirasa wandirasa wandirasa wandirasawo

Now I know this is not so much to ask for
Nor once in a while could i have some time
To simply tell you what I'm here for

Every man has got his day
When he's down and out
And every woman she's known that hour
When she's full of doubt
And every child every child has known that time
Of darkness around
When not a word or a ready smile
Could make steady, the ground

So you look with faith
To the gods above
Reach out to those around you
Cos it's about love
And you, you let your tears flow and mingle with the dust
Peace settles in your heart
Cos it's about trust

Do not feed the pain of a fellow human being
Do not judge a situation undeen
Lend a hand to those without
Spare a minute to those alone
