It's become a web phenomenon as Barack Obama used it in his presidential campaign and it has many other celebrities. Various websites and media organizations have Twitter accounts as well. The tweets must be 140 characters or shorter. Each Twitter user follows other users where their homepage shows the latest tweets for people they follow. You can also send direct messages to Twitter users and has many sister sites for pictures, twittering longer than 140 characters.
