Emmanuel Abrompah Botchwey aka Kwaw Kese hails from Agona Swedru and is a hiplife artiste.

He schooled at Happy Home J.S.S and then at Winneba Secondary School. While at Happy Home, he was singing and rapping to his friends and doing some stage performances. He moved to Accra after school and while hanging around Hush Hush studios trying to get a demo, he caught the eye of Hammer (of the Last2 fame). That is when, he wrote Oye Nonsense which featured on Obrafour's Execution Diary compilation. Oye Nonsense was a huge hit and stayed on several countdowns for several weeks in 2004. It also stirred some controversy, as the song got linked to Kontihene's Mi gi zi gi and it was believed that Oye Nonsense was dissing Kontihene (Kwaw kese has denied this even though there is a popular underground hit called the Kontihene diss featuring Kwaw Kese).

The next year, he did "kwakwa" on Hammer's Sounds of the Time compilation. His debut album was released in late 2005 as well with the lead track, Na ya tal. It was extremely successful and he release his second album Odiem in 2007. His 'abodam' catch phrase has become a slogan in Ghana and has almost replaced the Nigerian axiom “tofiakwa”.

He has also helped make the term, 'Wonngye' and 'Craci' popular in hiplife circles and is the leader of Abodam records. Some of the members are Jagoo, Okoto, Dr. Crime, Father Nhusie and Fish. Abodam Records also runs an NGO called ‘Music 4 Help Foundation’ which focuses on homeless orphans and mainly sends free music concerts to the orphans, a clothing line called 'Dam' Wear and a farm in his home town (Agona Swedru) called 'Dam' Farms.

Some of his songs include Odiem, Obra yerebo, The world, Yenfa odo mmom, Asem, Okwantuni, Who be you, Oye Nonsense, (Execution Diary), Kwakwa (Sounds of our time - last 2), etc

Mr. Okoto, I believe the Abodam crew will get in touch, stay glued to your Tigo aight?

Chale's picture

actually the song Asem is by a new hiplife artiste called ASEM. The song is enjoying a ton of airplay underground but it may never make it to the limelight cuz of its rather profane lyrics.
In the meantime, Kwaw Kese is flying high, definitely one of the most visible and popular Ghanaian musicians today!
