    Paul Nunda

Jua Cali is a genge/kapuka musician from Kenya. He was born Paul Nunda on the 12th of September 1979. The name Jua Cali comes from an estate in Nairobi called California. It is also the inspiration behind Calif Records. Jua Kali itself is also a Swahili term meaning informal sector.

He started rapping when he was in Jamhuri high school. He got more actively involved in music in 1998 after finishing school. He formed Calif Records with his good friend and producer Clemo in 2000 and the label has turned out to be one of the best in Kenya. Their original intention was to produce artistes but after some difficulty, Jua Cali took up the mic himself and in 2001 'JuaCali' was born. He released his first song 'Ruka' which was a dedication to Calif the same year. The single went on to top the charts.

In 2002, he released his second single Nipesali, which also did well on the local charts. The next year, he did videos for both songs. His third single came out in 2004 called 'Nikipotea tena'. He also did a party joint with Pilipili in 2004 called 'Kamata dame'. In 2006, he released his debut album called 'Juacalisekta'.

Jua Cali has become a huge star and is even seen as one of the most influential Kenyans. he was also nominated for British Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards, both in 2007.

Some of his songs are Mtu saba, Ruka, Bidii yangu, Kiasi, Nipe asali, Nakuroga, Kamata dem, Maneno kwisha, Unaniroga, Amii, Ni kuzuri, Nikipotea, Nina morale, Nyundo, etc
