As if by design, the National Theater was besieged by fans of Adole singing and heaping praises upon praises on their newly crowned heroin a few minutes after she had been pronounced winner of the second edition of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful Reality Show. Indeed Adole deserve the crown as days to the finals she was cool, calm and very collected in her preparation to glory.

…KWAME OWUSU ANSAH'S LAST COMMAND?

The family and funeral committee chaired by Harry Laud adhered to this rule as if it was Kwame's last wish or maybe he wrote it in his will that when he dies his family should give accreditation to people who would attend his funeral. For the first time in the history of showbiz in this country for a star like Kwame Owusu-Ansah to die for a so called accreditation and the right for this and the right for that to become a major issue for his final journey to the known. The death of Kwame Owusu-Ansah has brought a lot of issues from the media, from fellow actors, some family members and funeral organizing committee.

His death sparked a lot speculation about what or who really killed him. Unfortunately Kwame was the only one in the Toyota Camry saloon car. According to reports he was unconscious after the fatal accident and never spoke until he finally kicked the bucket.

After one week the hullabaloo about accreditation and who has the right to take photographs of activities concerning the funeral of the late brother began. And interestinly some family members demanded a ransom of 25million (old Ghana cedis) from Weekly Fylla newspaper for taking pictures at the one week ceremony. During the same one week reports came from Kumasi had it that they have set their own date aside what the family had announced. This brought bad blood between the family members and some Kumasi actors. While waiting for the funeral rights scheduled for the 13th, 14th and 15th of June, news came out that the remains of late actor had already being buried ahead of the set date because Kwame's body had being destroyed beyond recognition.

The family came out to deny all these and promised all Ghanaians to come and see Kwame's body laid in state at the International Press Center. At the wake keeping at Osu near the Ghana Institute of Journalism last Friday the Kumasi wing of the Ghana Actors Guild led by Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Naana Hayford and other movie personalities based in Kumasi made a show down accusing the family of discrimination. They alleged that Harry Laud, Koo Fori and other Accra based actors have connived with the family to stop them from seeing Kwame's body. They protested all night saying if the family will not allow them to see the body they should keep it for themselves. Meanwhile anybody who saw Owusu Ansah body could hardly believe that was the Africa Child.

On Saturday 14th June after the body was sent to the Holy Spirit Cathedral and finally buried at the Osu cemetery, there was another show down at the Trade Fair Center when the issue of accreditation came up, the family and the funeral organizers stopped Peace FM an Accra based radio station from transmitting its popular entertainment discussion program "Entertainment Review" live from the Trade Fair center because they had not being Accredited to do so.

In a related twist the camera of Weekly Fylla was seized for close to an hour before it was released simple because Weekly Fylla had not aid the accreditation fees. Concerns were also raised as to why the family decided to take the funeral to pavilion A instead of mounting canopies outside for enough space to allow free movement.

Church services proceeded on Sunday at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Sakomono on the Spintex road after which family, friends and sympathizers had a last seating at his residence also in Sakomono. Well, accreditation or no accreditation Kwame is gone and will never come back. We should also be reminded that a funeral in not a business venture.

Dear cronies of the showbiz fraternity, the week has been very tiresome and cumbersome because of the mammoth funeral held over the weekend of our late brother William Kwame Owusu Ansah, the Africa Child. If you missed it then folk, Woara o, Woara! It was a sad moment for showbiz as people wailed uncontrollably to pay their last respect.

Folks I met this lovely pretty Babe gal by name Tilly CEO of Tillson Agency at Tema, and looking at her age around 21 years and instead of her engaging in nefarious activities to earn a living she has decided to start something small in her own way to make a living for herself and 20 other girls. I am now convinced of Obour’s latest philosophy of “give the youth a chance”. Na me noa, brofo nsem be what, Eh Ghana Girls or was she flexing me? She is pretty and industrious, no doubt but her LAFA made me shy away from her but I hope to master courage the next time we meet (at who’s funeral?..)., to seek for her hands.

Almost a year ago on one fine Thursday morning news came over from Kumasi that 41-year old Mufty Dabre had died from ailment complications which shook the very foundation of showbiz. Everybody was stunned by his death, we wept as if we are going to join him in his external migration from the land of living, yet here we are celebrating his one year as another brother joins him. May his soul rest in peace. Yo! If I may ask what has happened to his daughter-Relwana Amama Dabre? Is she still schooling? What about her welfare? Any found for out keep? GOSPEL MUSICIANS CALLED FOR RESPECT AND DIGNITY
One of Ghana’s promising gospel musicians and students of University of Ghana, Legon Willie and Mike are set to stun the gospel scene after their sterling performance in their debut album-Me Mpene a compilation of 8-track album composed by Williams Asamoah and Michael Adomako. The duo has called on the media both print and electronic to stop taking hard stand on Gospel musicians but rather accord them the necessary respect and dignity.

“Any time we hear a gospel musicians being lambasted we feel bad and ashamed of our profession” they said and asked “Why is it that you don’t normally hear Hip lifers being chastised like you do to Gospel musicians? Look at how the media has taken stand on the Esther Smith’s marriage saga, it is very disheartening” they claimed.

Willie and Mike who will be launching their latest album come June 22nd, in Kumasi also took the opportunity to appeal to their colleagues, to be circumspect in the way they put information in the public domain or the media. “It is not good we wash our dirty linen in public. The best we can do is to continue praying and ask God to always intervene on our behalf” they pleaded.

It is a great delight to listen to these young chaps singing purely gospel hits with melody. Their emergence has become possible because of the tenderly and patient they exhibited during their time with their church. These young men were given the rudiments of music right from their cradle to their teenage period releasing hit after hits.

They were opposed to the negative propaganda currently going on in the media as if gospel musicians are angel and untouchable so anytime some thing crops up it is treated as if a major crime has been committed yet the same or even bigger offence would be committed by our secular brothers yet it is swept under the carpet. “We are not calling for any special dispensation but no, but we should accord the necessary respect” they concluded.

“MATE MEHO” HITS KUMASI ACTORS GUILD

The development of the Movie Industry in the country largely depends on the unity and togetherness of stakeholders and the active involvedness of the actors themselves. But the dimension and various conflicts of interest among them members doesn’t augur well for the development and sustainability for the good we are seeking and growth we are all yearning for the industry.

This observation manifested during the just ended 3-day final funeral rites of Kwame Owusu Ansah but an insider told me that this is not the first time this is happening but way back the demise of Oppong of Osofo Dadzie fame.

“Any time we are here for funeral or anything we are given raw deal by our colleagues here. The Accra actors don’t respect us from Kumasi for what reason I can’t tell. I think it is time for us to reassess our relationship with them.” One of the actresses who want to remain unanimous told me.

What took place during the wake-keeping leaves much to desire especially the way both parties conducted themselves? Their action nearly disrupted proceedings. The Kumasi group think they have been marginalized for much to long and this has led to total division among them and their beef stern from the fact that they are being referred to by the their colleagues in Accra as “Kumasi Actors”, because they speak Akan and they cant expressed themselves in English whilst the Accra group is known as “Accra actors” because of the usage of queens language.
“We are totally opposed to this defeatist tactics. Among actors in Ghana tell me who is most popular? Agya Koo of course why then this mischievous by our colleagues. We are perceived as illiterates and says that we are not illiterates but we all have our roles to play to develop the country through our individual talents?” the bemused lady said

As a result they have resolved to leave their mother union to form their own union which will give them respect, dignity and pride. They declared that the reformation of the Movie industry is now and they would focus on their God given talents despite bickering and name calling. They can vilify us but what we know is that there is no turning back.
“Mate Meho” is “Moviecally” in the offering and if nothing is done about this, it can lead to explosion which end results could be disastrous. The problem confronting the industry are enormous; pirating, copyright issues, high cost of production among others need to be addressed but not some of these trivial issues. Shine your eyes.

ACTOR/PRODUCER RUFES BEREAVED.

ONE of our own “big” brothers, Samuel Rufes Quansah, an actor cum producer is bereaved. The extremely strong character lost his father about two months at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

Activities marking the funeral celebrations of the veteran politician and a banker, he was the Chairman of UNIGOV and management staff of Standard Chartered Bank, High Street and Mr. Samuel Oblitei Quansah, alias S.O died on Friday April 25 at the age of 50.

According to burial arrangements the body will be laid instate for viewing on the 20th June 2008 at his residence at Sowutuom House. No. SOB/806, from 6am to 9am and thence to Dagadu Methodist Church-Osu-Ako Adjei for burial service and interment at Osu cemetery. On Saturday 21st June 2008, and thence to the Trade Fair site-La, Pavilion “F” for the funeral activities. The thank giving and memorial service would take place at the Wesley Methodist Church, Palladium, Hansen Road thence to Kwashiman Anglican Park. He left behind a wife Caroline Kotsoe Neequaye and 4 children
