Olubankole Wellington, a.k.a Banky W, is an American born-Nigerian R&B artiste.
His father is from Badagry while his mother is from Calabar in Cross River State. When he was five, we moved back to Nigeria and lived here for 12 years and attended Corona Primary School, Home Science Association Secondary School and Ajao Secondary School all in Lagos. He sang in a lot of choirs. He then went back to the US for college and studied Industrial Engineering from RPI in New York.
When he was a junior year in RPI, he started writing and producing and hitting the studios in order to release something while in the USA.
He has released a number of hit singles including Ebute metta, Capable and My regret.

I've loved Banky W's sound ever since I heard him. Could have been is a great track as well as My regret. Ebute Metta aka Nigerian Umbrella Remix has been the most popular and he's gaining more airplay in Nigeria with the Capable remix.
Aye ni the great talks about his album here
Since he returned home last year, he’s been touted by pundits as the ‘next big thing’. Now, it’s time to know whether Banky Wellington has got substance, or he’s just all about hype.
Mr Capable solves the puzzle. The singer’s debut leaves no one on doubt that he can sing. Banky imports his calm, rich-kid demeanour into his music, delivering slow tempo ballads, occasionally upbeat Rhythm and blues, and a lot of melody.
So Banky W went back to Nigeria, shot a couple of great videos including one in South Africa and is now doing adverts as well. Good stuff
Check this advert out for Etisalat - 0809 - Naija phone company
Etisalat - now you're talking. Their slogan is 0809aija. I love how Phone companies in Africa are making use of African musicians. I know Samini has a similar deal with MTN in Ghana.
