Ayetoro Funsho Ogundipe Afrobeat Panji Anoff Pidgen MusicI interviewed Wanlov da Kuborlor, a Ghanaian musician recently and one of the African musicians, he said he admired was Ayetoro (actual name is Funsho Ogundipe, Ayetoro is the band/music). He called him a step ahead of Fela. Every Nigerian and their father is in love with Fela Kuti's music so for anyone to say anyone is a step ahead of Fela is a very bold statement.
These were Wanlov's words - "He has all world class musicians in his band, he never plays anything he has recorded, creates new songs for his shows, records them at the show and never plays them again." I want to find out about that too.

Ayetoro is the Yoruba name of the live music project of Funsho Ogundipe, a Nigerian composer and Piano player. It is done wherever one can find musicians to play the type of music. Ayetoro in Yourba means 'world of peace'.

Funsho Ogundipe began playing piano at age 17 and was a regular at Fela Kuti’s club The Shrine. He performed with Fela in 1988 and formed Ayetoro in 1996 after a successful career in law and business. Ayetoro's music is influenced by Fela Kuti, Ayi Kwei Armah, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Haruna Ishola, Donald Fagen, Gilberto Gil, Sun Ra, etc

I admire how he plays live music and never plays anything he has recorded, just think about that for a moment. That oozes creativity and craves interest in his music. Their Myspace profile says you can find them in Accra, Lagos and London so maybe one of these days I'll catch a performance like this one

Some of his tracks include "Two In One (Les Ibeji)", "Omo Obokun, “Open Your Eyes…And Your Ears”, "Mr. Xyz", "Pepple Street Blues," "Highlife No. 2", "Song For Jenny", “Revenge of the Flying Monkeys”, "Nana", "Dzorwulu Blu Blues", "Akwaaba", etc

From the picture above, it seems he hooked up with Ghana's Panji Anoff of Pidgen music fame.
