We were there

For we were there, we were there
When it shonn
For we were there, we were there
When it shonn
Say we were there, we were there
When it shonn
Say we were there, we were there
When it shonn

From Israel to Egypt
From Ethiopia to Sudan
When it shonn
From Ayi Kushiman yi no
We prayed and we said dame and
When it shonn
Soso Timbuktu, Ghana, Mali
Sumanguru yi no when it shonn
For we were there, we were there
When it shonn

Soso Timbuktu, Ghana, Mali
Sumanguru yi no when it shone
King Tackie came and Sumanguru yi no
We were just there
We were there when it shonn

Osei Tutu yi no
Kwaa Mansa yi no
Yaa Asantewaa yi no
When it shonn
From Israel to Egypt
From Ethiopia to Sudan
When it shonn
They claim they came to wipe our tears away
They wiped away our history
They claim they came to wipe our tears away
They wiped away our glory

So what do we turn to
So who do we turn to
So where do we turn to
So what do we turn to
So who do we turn to
So where do we turn to

They say there's nowhere to turn to
But it's not true
Come on everybody

We were there first then so we know
When heaps of lepers
We were there, we were there
When the walls of Jericho came tumbling down
We were there first then so we know
They claim they came to wipe our tears away
They wiped away our history
They claim they came to wipe our tears away
They wiped away our glory

So what do we turn to
So who do we turn to
So where do we turn to
So what do we turn to
So who do we turn to
So where do we turn to

They say there's nowhere to turn to
But it's not true
Come on everybody
We were there first then so we know

How can you expect
The birds from the storm
When you have no respect
For the land that it stands on
Let us sing our song
We were there first then so we know
Jomo Kenyatta
We are calling you from Israel to Egypt
We are calling you
Shaka the Zulu

We were there first then so we know

I always thought this song was in Ga!

OK, it is. The original song is by Rex Omar. This is a translation then by Nat Brew. Same beat and everything. Nat Brew and Rex Omar used to work together with Akosua Agyepong as "Nakorex" so I guess they're doing remixes of their collaborations :)

The Ga lyrics suggest that the "Kante Kemani no Sumanguru you know" line should rather be "King Tackie and Sumanguru you know". King Tackie was a famous Ga king.

Thank you for the correction.
The Ga song is called Wogbe (wogbe dzeke) and is also on Amandzeba's Demara album.
The Ga song has only him singing and was actually a very big hit in 2000, eventually beaten out by Kojo Antwi's Tom and Jerry Aware for best song at the Ghana music awards.
Nat Brew was an original member of Nakorex, all three are doing well in their solo careers, even though I think Akosua Adjepong hasn't enjoyed the same amount of success.

Can any Ga language speakers help us Wogbe lyrics?

Check out the lyrics for Wogbe jeke at this link

I am yet to hear the original version by Rex Omar. The trio - Rex, Nat and Akosua Agyepong - could have been something special
