Mzbel's real name is Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah and is increasingly the poster girl for hiplife with a great amount of controversy, hits like Awoso me, African boy, Logoligi, Yopoo and 16 years and has widely been nicknamed Ghana's "Lil Kim". Misbel is derived from Miss and Belinda.
She grew up in the shanty towns of James Town and Mallam in Accra. As a child, she wanted to be a newscaster, work in the media. She ended up going to the Ghana Institute of Languages after a failed attempt to enter the Ghana Institute of Journalism. After completing, she hosted a children's programme called "Mora's keeper" on GBC Radio 1. She proceeded to Adom FM (formerly Groove FM) to do another kid's programme called "Kids on Groove". She had another stint at TV3 as a production assistant for one of the nation's major entertainment programs - Gold blast, and also for Talking Drum and Smash TV. She still dreams of an acting career and is fluent in French.
In 2002, she worked part-time at Daniel Adjei's Hush Hush Studios where she also tried her hands at music. She was still doing various jobs until some of her songs recorded at the studio were selected for production. That production became "African boy" which featured controversial hit "Awoso me".
She gained notoriety for her sexy and skimpy attires used in her music videos and performances. This drew a lot of criticism from the public and Awoso me was dubbed a "profane" song and barred from running for Ghana Music awards in 2004. Her second album had the hit track 16 years which preached against child molestation and assault.
She has also been involved in a couple of unfortunate incidents. She was assaulted at a show she participated in at KNUST and she proclaimed she would never perform at the university again. She was also the victim of an armed robbery where she was allegedly raped. In spite of all this, she's still going strong and is preparing to unleash more great music for her numerous fans.
Some of her songs are Yopoo, Lomnava, Faye me, Letter, Kiss me, Mepe, Twe ma me, Husb laborrow, Mama, Atopa, Awoso me, Bra Fiifi, etc
