Soul E and Colossal Entertainment situation
Hello, there have been various statement in the media about Soul E (Emmanuel Ifechukwude Okose) and his relation with his record label - Colossal Entertainment. Please find attached material that will allow you have a much more balanced opion about the situation.
I am posting pictures showing:
1/.how he looked when he joined the label
2/.Of him signing his contract he claims was signed under duress
3/.and the letter written to him asking him to report back to work
Please compare what Soul E looked like when he came to us and how he was after we changed him.
We bought him clothes, paid for his schooling, we paid for his project in his school, paid for his hospital bills. In fact, he has opted out from his OND program and IS NOT A GRADUATE. He has not rounded it up. It was Colossal that made him go to school, as soon as he left Colossal; his education came to a stop.he has many many carry overs in his school. You have access to verify this, please go to LASPOTECH exam and records. He says he is a banker! With no certificate?!
You need to understand that all the exposure Soul e got in his life was from Colossal. He had never entered a plane before and the first time he did this was when we took him for a show in Abuja. This is contrary to his many statements that he has been everywhere in the world. I can tell you he has never travelled out of Nigeria before except maybe to Ghana. Even that is not confirmed.
We gave him 150K monthly which we paid into Intercontinental Bank PLC account in Moloney branch, Obalende. He received this money every month for the duration of the show at the vault. This is verifiable. Apart from this 150K monthly, we still gave him 20K monthly for him to ensure he had pocket money. This was free from the company. We provided a home for him we furnished ourselves and provided a car and driver for him. He never paid for a manager as we provided one for him too.
In order to differentiate him from other artists, we did audition for a 9 man band to support him. All the instruments we we used were bought by us exclusively for Soul E. I mean a full 9 man band with instruments. Very expensive investments. The medicals, salary and welfare of the band members was paid for by the company.
The real problem is that Colossal did a good job in its work of promoting Soul E. He became so visible and popular within such a short amount of time Soul E thought it was all about him and his talent. He forgot that there was a machinery behind him spending millions to ensure he became the product he is today. This can be confirmed by his statements that he made Colossal what it is today and that Colossal is nothing without him! Please note that Colossal has sister companies (operating under different names) doing diverse other businesses from event management to advertising and the music aspect is not a major aspect of our business as Soul E wants the world to think!
Trouble started when Soul E came to us and stated that he wanted a jeep (BMW X5), he wanted a furnished duplex and 4 Million Naira! Naturally, we didn't take him serious given the investments we already made on him. After our refusal, he took off for many months and we refused to come to work. We heard that he had gone to form another company with a lady called Tracy Nither. As expected of Soul E, he quarreled with her and they split up. He ran out of finances soon after that split with Tracy Nither and he came back to Colossal saying he was mis advised and that it was the devil that made him run away. He signed 2 letters of apology and resumes work. Soon after that, he met another lady who had sufficient means to allow him run away again... We all know the rest of the story!
Would you believe that we even offered him a car and he said unless he got the jeep there would be no deal.
Let me tell you, right now, we have 35,000 units of unsold CDs in the head office out of 40K units we printed from ECOMAX. (please contact ECOMAK Opebi for confirmation of units printed). . Most of the CDs were sold by us through a marketing team of about 10 people who went around in a bus branded with Soul Es picture . Note that we sold the CDs at a loss through our marketing team because our object was not sales, but to get him popular. How could we have made money from selling the CDs for N100 when we had to calculate cost of repairing he bus, cost of paying salary to the bus driver, cost of paying the marketing staff, cost of running, servicing and fueling the generator that was used to play Soul Es music around the town? This went on for many months. Note: we spoke to Obaino, T Joe to become Soul E's marketers but they didn't take the job. It was Ike the Don that eventually took the job. Ike the Don is very popular in Alaba, please contact him and find out how many units of CDs were sold. Till date, he has thousand of unsold Soul E products. Do you image how much loss this cost us? We have 140,000 CD jackets wasting in the office (you are free to come and see them), we have 2 multi million Naira videos we shot that we can not release because the boy went mad before we could release this. Calculate these losses plus what we have already spent on the boy!. The angry thing is that the boy knows everything, he knows the very truth of everything. That's what makes it all the more pailful. He was like a younger brother to us and we are all very shocked at who he has turned out to be.
As established businessmen, we had close ties with starcomms and I used this link to ask them to allow us to host a show for them.
Please NOTE: we were already holding the show at the Vault before we signed on starcomms. Since Soul E was our artists, we used the platform to promote him by making him host the show. This is the logical thing any company would do.he never knew anyone in Starcomms. In fact, starcomms was not happy that we were using them to promote only Soul e, they said we needed to open the platform to ensure that all other Nigerian artist had equal access to their platform.
We are an organized company and we have proof signed by Soul E that he received up to date records of every single kobo the company made. Our accounts department provides him with details of request. Soul E was our only artist and was close to all oour staff, he has access to all our financial records. We have documents he has signed over the many months he was with us showing he collected his money and was appraised of income at every stage. He is trying discredit Colossal, he will answer in court.
It's important that he is taught a lesson for the sake of the Nigeria music/entertainment industry. Soul E was NOT kicked out of the house the company gave him, rather, he was not living there. he was staying with his girl friend for many months before we asked for the place to be vacated.
It was his younger brother and his friends who were staying there and they were very irresponsible. The neighbours were complaining about his brothers life style. yet we did not evict them. we evicted them after we collected money for a performance in which Soul E was to appear, we sent a car to pick him up from his girl friends place and he refused to turn up. we refunded the money to the lady who paid and asked his brothers to leave the house.
All record companies are now afraid to spend money promoting artist because of ungrateful people like Soul E. Its affecting the chances of up and coning artists and will have an effect of dynamism of the music inductry, who will invest in a sector where there is no respect for contractual obligations?. Journalist needs to support transparent and companies like Colossal to ensure they are not taken for granted.
Soul E needs to refocus his life and understand that those prophets he is in the habit of visiting in Ibadan who tell him he will succeed in his negative ambitions are not greater than God and he can not continue the way he is and succeed.
Soul E can not build a career on lies, deceit and dishonesty. We are convinced that society and those close to him do not know who is really. Most especially the lady he has chosen to marry and when the time comes, she will discover many things and who this boy called Soul E really is.
This story is not over and if you check his track record; he has issues with everyone in his life; his former group, his family, his record label and now his Church.
We have initiated over 3 court cases against him, the most recent is for defamation of character and libel. He has said in various print media that Colossal cheated him, that Colossal is a slave driver, that Colossal is owing him millions etc. He will answer for all these in court. In court, we want him to prove that we cheated him, that we did not give him accounts of money made and that we owe him millions of Naira!
For far too long Nigerian record companies allow artists to just get away with whatever they want, but please understand. No other record label has done for an artists what Colossal did for Soul E in the short period he was with us, we spent millions on him, we brought people from USA and Canada here many times to work on his project. How can we let him walk away? The Soul E Baba video that made him famous, does he know how much it costs? He signed a valid 6 year contract and he will not be able to do anything related to music in Nigeria or anywhere in the world unless he settles with Colossal in a legal way. The negative press he is giving Colossal may win him sentimental support from the public, but it will in now way affect the truth that will be established in court.
Colossal feels cheated and abused and we intend to use the law court to ensure we get justice.
There is so much more to be told but we are not out to wash Soul E dirty cloths in public; Colossal only wants justice and for the world to know the truth.
Please spread this information to all members of the press, let them know that the truth is that the boy is greedy and wants to breach his contract so he can earn all the money for himself now that the 'mugu' company has done its job of making him popular. That's the simple truth behind all the drama.
If you need any documents from Colossal to substanciate any of the statements and claims above, please do contact us immediately as we are now more than eager to spread the real story to everyone.

eish, people already lining up for Colossal Entertainment. This is a really sad story what has happened to Soul E but I guess we cannot take the record companies for granted.
am really dissapointed in soul e cos he got enticed by the expensive life other artist sre livin (dbanj 2face)but what he fails to realise is that they didbt make their weallth in a quick flash
2 face as been in the game 4 almost 10 years .dbanj was with the 419 squad he should pocket is egoand find better thing s doing
Am a full blooded music nigerian lawyer and after reading your blog, you have made no point exept revel on bloviates to explain how you have taken care of him and he cheated you back by being irresponsible. What are you talking about here, his moral attitude to the record label or what the contract stipulates?
You have tactically avoided the crux of the matter by stating what the contract that was signed contains and all the hidden clauses that were embedded in the contract to strangle soul e baba all in the name of making him popular!
No record label goes into an agreement with an artist to make him popular but to make their money back tripple fold. The blogger talks eloquently about collosal record paying him #150,000 per month and #20,000 pocket money because they love him?? Bullshit! We both know that money was to be deducted from the sales of the c.ds if ever he was a hit and it would be further deducted from royalties that publishing houses and collection societies would have paid to you if ever the profits came back to your record label.
Soul e was never your child or brother so you can't come out here and say you were being nice to him by providing a car, apartment, plane tickets and all that for free without soule furnishing some consideration back by relinquishing some of his future rights to your record label in terms of his image and likeness which you know quite well that with that you could license the brand "soul e" without soule making a fuss because of his ignorance in contractual matters and probably in terms of the profit sharing. So please dont come here with all this balderdash of yours and condemn soul e and paint your selves as saints.
One morething! Who still signs a 6 year music contract without certain advantages coming to the artist and label???????? This isn't America Jack, where the 7 year option label signing rules comes into play. This was pure sheer slavery and you played into the hands of the boy's ignorance and when he screwed you back you cried "Wolf".
If you really want people to be on your side, i dare all of you in collosal records to show the world the contract that you signed with Soul E and i can promise you, i will rip each clause to shreds so as to show how you manipulated the boy to sign a contract by dangling a few millions which was still coming back to you in 25 different forms. You guys are so lucky that in Nigeria today that there are very very few music lawyers like me and the artists are afraid to look for a competent one, unless all these bloviates you have just expounded here would mean nothing to the court of law and to the public.
Lastly whose business is it that 35,000 copies are still in your office? Your the record label, you deal with it..your loss or gain is still in your court so it has nothing to do with soul e.
Yah right! Mathew Ottah.I
we read your email 3 times and trying to identify your point. If im not wrong , your point is this: the guy signed a contract he wasnt happy about and he has decided hes not doing it no more? Is that your arguement?.
Well, Im not happy about my mortgage, im not happy at the rates for my car loan. So, ive decided im not paying no more mortages for my house and still live in it and im keeping the car and to hell with repaying the car loan.My bank can go to hell!. I love the logic,!
You need to go back to college and ask about what makes a contract valid and how a contract can be terminated. Im not a lawyer but i think 'im not happy with my contract' isnt one of those ways!
You must definetly be a successful lawyer! Good luck with your crazy logic!
weve all been following this boys story and let me tell you, people are wiser than you think. People are wiser than you think dear fella! But like all things: time will tell.
please keep blogging we are enjoying this Soul E saga!!
In case you dont know, a contract can be terminated due to Undue inflence, duress and misrepresentation. As your not a lawyer, i dont expect you to know remotely half of these parts that can rescind a contract. As for your mortgage bloviates you just expounded as a soundproof logic to justify why soul e's contract is valid, just smacks of sheer foolishness. What has a mortgage loan of 25 years repayment have to do with a contract that strangles the very existence of an artists survival?
For your information, a contract that expects someone to perform a service is known as an employment contract and there are certain things that have to be there to make it subsisting and valid hence a lock out, strike or a legal attempt to rescind the contract. Collateral records state they were paying him #150,000 a month. In what capacity did that payment fall under? Was Soul E their janitor, driver, gate man or what that they have to be paying him salary? Was Soul E a director of the company which entitled him to a salary? Have you heard of any musician who signed under a label collecting a salary when he's not a part owner of the record label like shady record or convict music? Of what good was it and nobody should say they were helping soul E out because the record contract was soley a contract for service in return he would get percentages of the recoupable amounts from sales. Was the #150,000 inserted in the contract as part of his future payments or for the sheer love of Soul E? If that wasnt inserted, it's nobody's business whether they gave him that money or not and should stop crying foul because of that money. They were just being charitable and they lost in that part. It has nothing to do with the contract based on their foolishness.
" 1/.how he looked when he joined the label
2/.Of him signing his contract he claims was signed under duress
3/.and the letter written to him asking him to report back to work"
I pulled this from the nonsense the actual blogger tried to insinuate.
1. (how he looked when he joined the label) What is the relevance of that statement? Does he look like a begger that needs family support? How does the blogger look like when he wakes up in the morning? Very irrelevant reason
2. (Of him signing his contract he claims was signed under duress) No eveidence of him signing a contract. Just him saying cheese behind a table and a worthless and unreadable piece of paper. Obviously not relevant to the fact in issue.
3. (and the letter written to him asking him to report back to work) I dont see no letter and besides, it's a music contract to sing and perform and not a janitorial duty asking a secretary to resume back to work. Duh, he's a recording artist and not a Diamond bank Ceo. He sang and they recorded and they distributed. Enough said. Not soul e 's problem if they dont market the product well. That's collateral's headache. At least that's why they signed Soul e so as to make money. So if it goes bad...Kaboom! Sorry next!
Also all the rubbish about him not being a graduate and the fact they paid his airfare just shows the level of immaturity of the blogger. Who's fault is it that they didnt check him out first. Just because they lost money due to their incompetence, they are now trying to descredit his character. If they had gone tripple platinum, would we even hear about what primary school he attended? It's just a very poor imitation of Entertainment Tonight Hollywood gossip of the day. It's so yesterday!
It's so funny that colossal are crying because they havent sold 35,000 copies stuck in their office. How much is that..em..35000 x N100 = N3.5 million and they have already spent almost N2million on salaries to Soul e? Haaaaaaaaa Foolishness incorporated. Abeg these people dont have anything reasonable to say. Just because of their poor accounting and music business skill, they have tried to take Soul E down through his bad character. It's just a shame, Soul E didnt get adequate representation during the contract signing process and the court trials unless, the moral of this whole story should be how not to run a "mugu" record label. Collateral were dumb in their music choices and business and nobody should take the fall due to their ineptitude. Who goes about providing free services for an artist and even collating a 9 man band for free? Who goes about provididng a car, flat, medical insurance and blah blah blah for free without getting anything back in return? Instead of themtaking stock of their business losses and lack of financial planning in the promotion of an artist and running a record label, they instead resort to caterwauls to justify something that isnt there. Even if Soul e doesnt sing for the next 6 years, who loses in the long run? Soul E or Collateral? Chose your pick and find out who has been finally played. Collateral might have won the battle at this stage at the high court but i implore Soul E to appeal those judgements or injunctions because with proper representation, he would be released from this blood cuddling contract and leave collateral to lick its wounds.
One more thing for collateral records. Learn from the experienced ones like Kennis Music. There are only 2 Rules in the music business.Number 1: The record label always wins no matter what as long as they are business savvy and know their onions. Rule Number 2: Never forget rule number 1
I guess Collateral forgot those rules hence their mess and the "Mugu" tag latching onto them. I swear, if i was an artist, this would be the best record label to sign up to b'cos i can imagine a million and one atrocities i could commit signing up with them and getting scot free away with. Worst come to the worst, they get a court injunction but those #150,000 salaries per month would definately be spent wisely by me and i know collateral aint touching it cos it's mine given to me by my own personal sugar daddy or should i say sugar record label!
@Anonymous...sorry about your car loan. Hope the repo man isnt lurking around your neighbour soon. I could have helped you but i just bought a new car recently fully paid up cash. I dont do loans. Never have, never will. I feel your pain. those loans are killing and no wonder you feel the pains of Collateral too. Those bad debts are killing too..lol.. Birds of the same feather loan together and wallow in debt forever! tut tut....!
I agree with a lot of things you said in THIS email, not the previous one. Its unfortunate both for the record label and the artist.
I guess both will have to lick their wounds and learn from the lesson.
From what you have said; The record label had more passion than sense while Soul E had more sense than passion.
Lets see how this plays out for both teams.Good luck to you and pls keep those blog coming!

The above comment stated by the music Lawyer above are the fact that should be noted in the dispute of Soul E and his record label. Anyways, I intend owning a record label and I would like to work with someone like this Lawyer becuase he seems to know more about music and law. So please provide me with your contact details; for a start an email address will be fine.

soul E baba was my neighbour back in Nigeria, i supported him right from the very beginnig..but the problem this guy has is that..he is very greed...like they said, he is a small boy, let him alone, and i guess he is going regret this
soul e, honestly you realy have to slowdown and take things easy. don't forget that any river that flows away from its source will always dry up. for peace to reign do what ever they want u to do, you have nothing to loose. take it or leave it, the truth still remains that colossal made you. though it is all by the grace of God, you still need to show some appreciation. try to be greatful at least.
colossal entertainment, soul e, is your boy and will always be your boy. you need not get even with him.treat him like a child that he is, pet him like a father pets his son .you two need to understand yourselves. he claims you are wrong you claim he is wrong ,two wrongs can never be right. even here in aj city atistes and lebels dey quanter seriously sotey dem dey nearly exchange blow, yet dem dey settle. make una stop to give news paper story to sell. the time when una start no body know, now una come dey wash una dirty pant for public. na waa oh.
soul e, i am telling u this as a fellow musician, PRIDE GOES BEFORE A FALL. be warned.

Hey guys, these things happen. Life is full of entries and exits. What's the big deal if Soul E chooses to move on without collosal. He'll bear the consequences of his actions, by the way you can verify from the federal high court, they have had two hearings on two different "cases" between Soul E and collosal and all the judgements were in Soul E's favour. Doesn't that tell you something about who's been lying to the public? Anyway for those of you who think Soul E fucked up? He took the best decision of his life by leaving those slave masters or would you rather want to see him in six years very very popular but broke like some of the other artists? The guy is wise thats why he sang that you too should soji. By the way Soul E that your new video E Soji is off the hook. Well that guy is blessed and he has come to stay in the Nigerian music industry. Sorry collosal, try again with another artist. I attended Soul E's church 3 sundays ago, you guys, Soul E don go, the church is something else, his wife Queen Ure is an angel. God has decided to judge the case between Collosal and Soul E and it's very obvious whose side he's on and if God be for you who can be against you? please answer the question. Soul E, one love my brother, we dey your back, no shaking, nothing dey happen.
Soul E is not doing badly as a pastor huh? Will be looking for his new video, Soji.

Blingz, can you post some of your music?
Hey if what Soul E did was true,he deserves to go to Jail !!!!!!!!! cos he is a Bad and black Minded Human being!!!!! But if its a lie Colossal deserve's to face the court of law so that they can pay the guy loss and damage for spoiling his name.
Naija is improving don't let the traitors discourage our music industry.
Shola Scott..............Strictly Naija
As a record label Ceo myself from what i have heard.its very sad to spend and invest in an artist for years only to have him abscond. Shits like this made me get a thicker than bible contracts for any artrist. But I honestly think both parties should always respect there contracts. Collosal has become a major name in the industry.Big up to them......soul E. should also find a way to atone..bcos the industry is all related...u mess with one cat...all the lions are watching you...
peace

Producers really got it tough. It takes a lot to produce artistes, market albums, get shows/concerts, keep the musicians motivated, etc.
Colossal Entertainment deserved better and I believe they will reap their investment in other musicians as well.
How is the payola/'paying money to DJs to market music' situation in Nigeria? Is it causing record labels to fold like in Ghana?
