AFRO-DIASPORIC GROOVALICIOUS FUNKADOCIOUSNESS!!!
WE'RE BAAAACK!!
Wzup FAM! It's been awhile but we're back and in full effect! The summer has been a productive one - full of hot recording, new connexions, some backstage wheelin' n' dealin', and a few special surprises coming up in the next few weeks. In short, we cannot wait to unveil all the fiyah' fo' ya!
The first project we are launching this fall is the Take Back the Mic(TBTM) tour. In typical Soulfège style, we are using our music as a means to empower youth across the country, challenging a generation to "take back the mic" and speak for itself. Visit http://takebackthemic.com to learn more about the project and become a member of the TBTM movement.
Next up is news we know the fam has been long awaiting....Soulfège is about to drop a special pre-release of our NEW ALBUM!!! It's been a year-and-a half of hard work (well...technically the summer was a lil' more intense ;), and with tunes like "Once," "Johnny's Song," and "Do Right," and a gang of new and never before heard material, this is without a doubt our BEST RECORD YET!! You can get your exclusive pre-release copy of the record by becoming a member of Take Back the Mic. The official album won't drop until April, but this 11-song pre-release is for you guys, the fam that has supported us along the way.

Check out tracks/songs/audio from the Afropolitan album on the Myspace page

I am excited about this 'Take back da mic' tour, the work Soulfege is doing and their upcoming album, Afropolitan. The special pre-release could not come sooner :-) You can preview some of the tracks at Soulfege's Myspace. I have seen them perform many of the songs including Once, Johnny's Song, Mini hewo (why) and Do right and I must say that they are great songs that will keep you on your feet dancing. I especially love Mini hewo (which is in Ga and English) as it talks about culture and how people travel far and wide and seem to forget their roots.
One song I haven't seen them perform is 'Beans N Rice'. Not to be mistaken for 'Chicken noodle soup', this song sounds like Soulfege's next party anthem after Yaa (dis be fo radio) with lines such as "Soulfege, cool as we kick it... fresh up the kitchen". The song features Ghanaian hiplife legend, Reggie Rockstone, and it figures to be the lead single on Afropolitan and may be on Rockstone's next album, if he is to have one after the "Last Show". "Come and get a little taste of beans and rice".
It seems DNA is bent on increasing the influence of African languages on this record. Damoshi, which means 'Stand up' in Ga, doesn't sound like the other typical Soulfege tracks. Don't you love diversity in albums? The song features Nadirah X (who features on the Take back da Mic tour) and Eroc of the Foundation
Movement.
Another track to watch out for is 'From the soul' which has a nice vibe and rhythm. There is also the inspirational 'Fight on' which is definitely one of my favorites. with some great work by Kelley and Jonathan Gramling. Some lines from Fight on "I learnt to play (wrote) a song for all the people who fight on, in a world that doesn't see them until they are gone, seems so many lonely people who fight on, baby, be strong"
I've heard the word Afropolitan being used loosely in various places, one of which was this article written by Derrick Ashong. A friend also defines Afropolitan as someone who is African by his routes (that he/she has taken) and not necessarily his roots.
Stay tuned for Afropolitan because Soulfege is bringing the AFRO-DIASPORIC GROOVALICIOUS FUNKADOCIOUSNESS!!!
Johnny's song is on Soulfege's Myspace, scroll up to enjoy! as well as Damoshi (Stand up in Ga), Fight on and From the soul

AFRO-DIASPORIC GROOVALICIOUS FUNKADOCIOUSNESS!!!
What's up fam! We are writing to give you what is probably the
biggest news we've had since the launch of the fam list.
As many of you know we have always been radically independent in our
approach to the music, message & marketing of what we do. We made a
conscious choice to pursue a "do-it-yer-darn-self" strategy because
we felt like the mainstream of the industry did not treat artists
fairly nor did it invest in the kind of music we wanted to do - music
that was simultaneously positive, fun & intelligent.
We are still hella' independent and probably always will be. But
we're happy to announce that Soulfège has found a partner we believe
in and finally signed A RECORD DEAL! We have entered into an
agreement with a new Indy Label called Left Turn Music, that was
founded by long-time, multiplatinum rock producer Elliot Mazer (Janis
Joplin, Neil Young, Linda Rondstadt...) and Brian Cullinan who ran the
Digital Media division of Columbia Records and helped break the likes
of John Mayer, John Legend & Common.
We signed with Left Turn because they are a smart, cutting edge,
artist-friendly company that combines an innovative approach to
marketing music, with deep experience & relationships in the
mainstream of the biz.
On Saturday Dec 22nd we will be having our official signing party at
The Living Room in NYC. There will be a number of industry folks
there and we need to make a strong showing to get this next phase
started on the right foot. Sooo...
SAVE THE DATE!
SATURDAY DEC 22nd!
Tix are $15 which includes a pre-release copy of the new record! If
you're not in NY that day, pass the word along to someone who is.
This show is going to sell out so please RSVP to fam@asafo.com so we
can make sure our core fam can get tickets!
Thanks y'all for helping us to get this far. Time to take it to the
next level!
Mad love,
fam
