    Mbongeni Ngema

Mbongeni Ngema is a South African writer, lyricist, composer and director. He started his career as a theatre backing guitarist.

He married Leleti Khumalo, who has starred in Sarafina, Yesterday and Hotel Rwanda. She was nominated for a Tony Award Best Actress in a Musical for Sarafina in 1988, while Yesterday and Hotel Rwanda were both nominated for Oscars.

Mbongeni is seen as a racist by some people becaue of the controversy his song, Amandiya, generated. It is about racism that Blacks in KwaZulu-Natal have suffered at the hands of Indians. Amandiya was banned after its release in 2002, and he refused to apologize even at Nelson Madiba Mandela's influence.

'Woza Albert' is a theater piece from South Africa, featuring gifted actors Percy Mtwa and Mbongeni Ngema who play a wide variety of roles in a mosaic of roughly two dozen scenes.
The piece talks about apartheid amongst many things and set on Albert Street in Johannesburg.
The show is a parable about what might happen if Jesus Christ were to descend on South Africa-by jumbo jet from Jerusalem. 'Woza' means rise up.

The show features Percy Mtwa, Mbongeni Ngema and Barney Simon. It is directed by Simon who also does the set design.
