I am a Kenya and have recently discovered Ugandan Gospel music. I have especially liked Wilson Bugembe's music and I even read his story with great admiration. Is it possible to get the lyrics to his music so I can be able to sing along?

I am an American, but I lived, for the past 3 years, in Uganda. I recently came home to the US and I am teaching primary for a while. This week my class is learning about Uganda, and I want to teach them some praise and gospel songs in Luganda and other local languages kinyankole...etc. Anyone have any lyrics or songs I could use?? I would be so grateful. Thanks!

One song you could use is Wipolo by Pastor George Okudi.
It's in the Luo language of the Acholi people.

so this is how the wipolo song goes
-wipolo bot lubanga, mulokole bedu iye

In the second part they use English, like:
Did you find them dancing in the house of the Lord?
Yes, i found them dancing in the house of the Lord.

This is another easy one

"Katonda Mulungi,

Katonda Mulungi,
Mulungi gyendi"

It translates into:
"God is so good,
God is so good,
God is so good,
He's so good, to me"

As Mr. George Okudi has sung the song Wipolo, it is in "broken" lebLango, one of the Luo languages not really Acholi as you state!

Does anyone happen to know if traditional Ugandan music uses anything other than the Western standard 12-tone pitch set? Or any other musical characteristics specific to this genre?

I don't know if Jose Chameleone or Bobi Wine has released a compilation of music videos. The best thing to do is contact both musicians through their Myspace.

man, I LOVE that song. I was just playing it today. I have one of george okudi's tapes from when i was in uganda, and i have such fond memories of this song. i've always been wondering about the full lyrics in luganda.
