The 1st Africa Music Awards (AMA) event comes off Saturday 27 December 2008 in London. The AMA aims to expose the incredible richness of African music and culture, showcasing the breath-taking performances from the Continent’s music giants and top musicians. The event is expected to be broadcasted to over 10million viewers worldwide, and 2,500 live audiences consisting of the crème de la crème of society.

News is filtering in concerning who won what at the MTV Africa Music Awards held in Abuja, Nigeria last night. Winners received 'Golden Microphones', one of which is shown here. D'Banj was the big winner, taking home three awards - artiste of the year, male artiste of the year and the listener's choice award.

Johannesburg/Kinshasa/Lagos/Nairobi/New York, 11 November 2008: US hip hop phenomenon Flo Rida will perform for the first time in Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) as MTV salutes the power of US and African hip hop. Joining the whirlwind Miami MC performing at the event will be MAMA award nominees 9ice (Best Hip Hop, Best New Act nominee), Naeto C (Best New Act nominee), Ikechukwu (Best Video nominee) and Jua Cali (Best Male nominee).

MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA's) 2008 nominees for the Listener’s Choice Award
MTV has unveiled the nominees for the Listener’s Choice Award at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMAs). The awards celebrate the tracks and artists who triumphed on the radio airwaves in 2007/8.

The nominees for the Listener’s Choice awards, chosen exclusively by radio listeners across Africa are:
- Jax Panik (South Africa) - 'Cigarettes and Cinnamon'
- D’Banj (Nigeria) - 'Why Me'
- Nakaaya (Tanzania) - 'Mr. Politician'
MTV Base & Shell Initiative Videos - Wahu, Bleksem, Kwaw Kese, Olu Maintain
MTV Base Africa and Shell have partnered in another initiative to shoot some excellent music videos for a number of African musicians. They have already shot videos for Ghana's Tinny (Incomplete), South Africa's HHP (Music and Lights) and Kenya's Nikki (Kipofu).
The first MTV Making the Video Challenge with Shell partnered Little X, the Toronto-born music video director behind cutting edge music videos with Sean Paul, Jay Z and Rihanna, with South African video directors, Kwaito artist Bleksem and Mozambique's Dama do Bling on their exciting single collaboration, 'Wena Uthini' (also known as Thula Uzoyiboma). Bleksem has been riding high on the success of his 'How low can you go' track with DJ Cleo. Dama do Bling is one of Africa's best female emcees and she has also released singles from her new album (Chamadas para a Bling), including 'Gimme love'.

Channel O Music Video Award Winners 2008
The winners for this year's Channel O Music Video Awards (MVA) have been named. The awards ceremony came off Thursday night (Oct 9) at the Carnival City, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The MC's were Channel O's own Nonhle Thema and Krazy Boy (Kabelo 'KB' Ngakane. See an interview we had with Nonhle here and the full list of nominees.
Nigerian artistes did very well, the best Kwaito award went to Namibia (again) and best dance as well. The best female award went to one of the ladies of Bang Entertainment in Mozambique as well. One new Zimbabwean artiste felt greedy and took two awards, yay for Zimdancehall! P-Square won the best video but which of their awesome videos from the Game Over was chosen?
