Atongo Zimba

Tagged:

Atongo Zimba is a musician from northern Ghana who plays the koliko - a two-stringed calabash lute (a kind of West African banjo). He is seen as one of Africa's rising music stars.

He was taught how to play to koliko or molo by his grandfather, learning how to play various native and tribal songs. He had a particular liking for Afrobeat music (Fela Kuti et al) which made him leave home to explore that and other music genres.

He met producer and arranger Sultan Makendé (aka Dave Yowell), who helped him produce his debut CD, Savannah Breeze. The CD is deep in jazz, funk and various African genres. The CD got Atongo rave reviews and got him featured on BBC.

Some of his songs include Bedi bedi, Sana menga, Tuawa, Gidi gidi, Zo ndorizo, Balanore, Azoroga, etc
