Viviane Chichid (formerly known as Viviane Ndour) is often referred to as the Queen of Mbalax. Mbalax is a Senegalese music genre. She is well known for her blends of Mbalax, R&B, pop and hip hop. She is a Kora nominated artiste who has toured worldwide. She recently featured on Mokobe's hit called Safari.
She got her big break in 1993 when she joined Youssou Ndour's band, Super Etoile, She featured on many Youssou hits; Seven Seconds, Wommat, etc. She is not Youssou's sister, but until recently she was married to his brother, Boubacar.
In 1997, she went solo and enjoyed a successful career, eventually getting her own band called Jolof band. You all know Jollof rice is from Senegal right? Right.

She has also remixed a lot of popular American songs. Her track, Goor fit, is a cover of the late Aaliyah's Are you that somebody. She also features one of Senegal's foremost rappers, PBS Radical, on Am fit which sounds like a Senegalese version of 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. She must have really been feeling Fiddy, as another track on which she features King Massassi and Tata Pound called Obibolo uses the P.I.M.P beat.
Thanks to Likembe for the American song cover tip.

I don't think she is the queeen of mbalahk there are far more better artist in senegal than her, like Titi and coumba gawlo.....she is a great artist but she is not original, she just copies and paste
Well, I am not the one who said it. I think Viviane may be the most popular though. Have you seen her song with Mokobe called Safari? She looked like a queen in that video. She does do a lot of copy and paste though.
Off to check out Titi, Seck and Coumba gawlo :-)
