From Hawking on the streets to music - 2Kay
To say 2kay, real name Abiye David Jumbo, has had to struggle for his break in the music industry is an understatement. Not that having to fight to get what you want is an alien concept to the newest artise on the Grafton Streetz label.
He grew up in the violent regions of Port Harcourt and it is those experiences that 2kay started writing music about from a very early age. But trying to focus on the music was difficult when he had turmoil in his private life that reflected that going on in his surroundings. At the age of 12 he had to hawk kerosene on the streets to help his struggling mother maintain the family. It is perhaps here that 2kay was able to understand the power of his music as he proved a popular salesman with a selling and singing pitch.
Mimi Hits Nigeria With Promotional Tour
She was not able to perform on the second eviction of the Big Brother All Stars because Big Brother had a surprise for all the former housemates.
GhanaCelebrities.com has been reliably informed that Mimi would be invited to pass through the Big Brother All Stars show. This package is to have all the former houses come on board to feel the all stars show.
However, Nigeria is readily waiting for Mimi as she embarks on her promotional tour to the West African country. The singer who represented Ghana in the Big Brother Africa 3 show will be on her way out of Ghana and her first stop will be Virgin Island, Lagos.
She is set to make appearance in the club ‘REHAB’ to promote her new single ‘Shayo’. She will then make a couple of radio and TV interviews in selected stations.
The Ghana Music Awards 2010 ‘Discovery of the Year’ nominee will head to Abuja a week later. She will again make some appearance, as well as perform in Club Fuzion.
O2 African Music Awards 2010 Nominees
Akon, Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, SWAY, K’naan, P Square, Sarkodie, Radio & Weasel, D’Banj, Amr Diab, Tamer Hosny, Alikiba, Black Coffee, are some of the big names nominated to battle for this year’s O2 African Music Awards (AMAs) Statuette.
The AMAs is Europe’s premier annual awards ceremony for African musicians and music makers. The main aim is to achieve mainstream recognition for big selling African artists who have sold millions of records in the African market, yet remain under-exposed to the Western world. Music industry experts have tipped African music to “explode” into the UK market and the AMAs is there to provide a platform that will recognise their achievements annually.
This year’s nominee application broke last year’s record, a total of 2,325 applications were received over the 2 months submission period.
This year’s voting is 100% by the general public via the official O2 African Music Awards’ website http://www.africamusicawards.com/ and SMS. Voting will be activated between 6th September and 10th October. All winners will be announced at the awards on Friday 15th October at Wembley Arena, London.

#MOAMA African artiste of the year Lizha James gives birth to baby girl
On July 26, 2010, @LiizhaJames announced the birth of Elisa Helena James Mourinho, her first child to her and Mr. Bang, her husband and producer. We join all Lizha's fans to wish her the best as she welcomes a new member to her family.
Some of the Facebook posts on Lizha's wall included "ParaBens pelo n0vo membro da familia, o n0me tem que ser "Elizabang"" and "Parabens Lizha e Bang, tudo de bom para voces e para a bebe. Beijocas". Fans were congratulating her and welcoming a new member to her family and joking her name should be "Elizabang" and wishing the best for her and her baby.
From her latest video, Es Meu, you can see how pregnant Elisa Lisete James Humbane was. The song and video features Brazilian Alcione Dias Nazareth, who is one of the most successful female sambists in Brazil. The video is low key and we don't see Lizha James dancing and moving like she usually does in her high-energy music videos. She was quite reserved in this video as she and Alcione held microphones and sang in a recording session with a live band backing them.
