Interview with @Wanlov and @Mensamusic - Cos Ov Money 1 Pidgen musical
Joselyn C. Dumars sits down with Wanlov and Mensa to talk about Coz Ov Moni on GTV's Rhythms TV after the musical's premiere.
‘Cos Ov Moni’ is an amazing pidgin musical trailing the ‘hustle’ of two friends within a day. The story unfolds as they wake up in the morning with one thing on their mind, to collect a debt own them by a wily friend. After getting the money, they set of to blow it off on food, partying and women with hilarious and dramatic consequences. While going through the day, the story highlights real struggles of ordinary young Ghanaians in modern Ghana in spite of the strong elements of humour. Their ability to do this so subtly is something that makes me want to see more, but sadly Wanlov and M3nsa say they have give up on any acting ambitions following the torturous production schedule they had to go through in the past few months.
Watch Part 1 featuring reactions from Samini, Reggie Rockstone, Lazzy of VIP, Kwaku-T and Barima.
We go score (Wanlov, Samini)
‘Coz Ov Moni’ Is A Pidgin Musical – M3nsa
Well, looking at the Ghana Film Industry, a movie such as ‘Coz Ov Moni’ is long over due in coming. Ghana can boast of juju, robbery and the likes storylines in movies.
One thing we are lacking in Africa is encouragement; and what we have in abundance is back biting and pull-him-down disease. Good to know there are still people in Africa, who still believe in creativity and originality.
If you haven’t seen the latest movie ‘Coz Ov Moni’ dubbed musical film then you have to hold it till its released onto the market, when you finally watch it, you will understand that, a movie like that is not easy to come by.
‘Coz Ov Moni’ is musical film, which is a master piece because it has these two ingredients ‘Creativity’ and ‘Originality’. Are we not tired of always selling America to Americans? It’s about time we started selling Africa to the outside world. I believe we can sell Africa to the world through African way. Are people going to accept this movie?
Wanlov da Kuborlor's song picked by Amnesty International
Amnesty International has selected Wanlov's song, ‘Just Like You’ for their 2010 music compilation. Ten artistes from Africa were selected for the compilation.
He has also been selected out of more than 50 applicants/projects who applied for this year’s Spoken Word and Poetry Festival to take place in Paris, France. He wants to combine indigenous instruments from Ghana and indigenous European instruments.
He will also closely look at the various resemblance in local instruments and foreign instruments like Goje and Violin, Xylophone and Piano, Kologo and their Mandolin ‘Guitar’.
He is excited about the project because it represents both his ancestral (Ashanti and Gypsy) backgrounds. The project which takes place at Cité des Arts near Paris, France will take him away from August 1 to November 1.
Adjorkor (FOKN BOIS)
Wanlov and M3nsa bare it all ‘Coz Ov Moni’
We once reported news of Wanlov & Kwaku-T appearing in a film called Scar. Not much has been heard of it since but fresh news talks about the FOKN BOIS (Wanlov & M3nsa) in a musical called 'Coz ov moni' (Because of Money). The two have collaborated on a lot of projects lately, including Broken language, etc.
Ameyaw Debrah writes - I am sure that Ghanaians by now have gotten used to seeing rapper Wanlov walking bare-footed in town in the usual wrap around his waist with little or no underpants beneath. However the free spirited artist together with friend and acclaimed composer/rapper/producer M3nsa, reveal a lot more on tape for their upcoming movie, ‘Coz Ov Moni’. The two musicians weren’t shy at all in showing bits of the backsides in several scenes in the simply hilarious flick. At a recent press preview, the two new members to the acting fraternity explained that the nudity in the flick wasn’t in bad taste because it is not sexual in nature. So don’t expect another ‘Heart of Men’!
Hiplife (Wanlov, Samini, VIP, Reggie Rockstone) featured on AlJazeera's Playlist
AlJazeera English has a programme called Playlist where different types of music from all over the world are featured.
In the videos below, PLAYLIST encounters hiplife the music of modern Ghana touring the clubs of the Ghanaian capital, Accra, to meet the masters and rising stars of western-Africas latest fusion sensation. Hip hop is assumed to be an American invention. But African artists and MCs will argue that the history of hip hop belongs to them. They say it is traceable back to rhythms, instruments and drums indigenous to Africa, and has been thriving since the early 1990s, when musicians fused traditional Ghanaian high-life music jazzy horns and guitars with hip hop beats and flowing rap lyrics, and hiplife was born. We talk to Reggie Rockstone about this exciting sound.
PLAYLIST also travels to New York to find out how the hiplife scene is storming the clubs of the USA. From its birthplace in Ghana, west Africa, the hiplife movement and its stars are reaching out to audiences far from home. And we hear from some of hiplife's stars Batman Samini, VIP and Wanlov de Kubolor.
