Ogopa Deejays is a one of the best production houses in Africa. They've produced countless hits for East African musicians and have recently gotten into music video direction. They've worked with artists like Nameless, Mr. Lenny, Wahu, Big-Pin, Amani, Necessary Noize, A-Y, Lady Jaydee, etc. Their Ogopa Volumes and Compilation are hot commodities on the music scene and more recently, they have artists like Avril, Colonel Mustafa, Marya, Trapee, coming out of their stable. A few years ago, they partnered with Namibia's Butterfly Entertainment to produce Namibian musicians, expand their reach to Southern Africa and continue their excellent track record. That partnership has produced songs and videos for Gal Level, The Dogg, Sunny Boy, Faizel MC, Kalaharians, Roger, amongst others. Museke.com asked the Ogopa guys about their work and below is the transcript.

Museke.com: What is the history of Ogopa DJ’s?
Ogopa: Ogopa Djs is a production house that emerged in the late nineties in East Africa. The founding partners, having been performing artistes in their own right were actively involved with Deejaying and had constant interaction with upcoming artistes trying to make it in an environment that was 100% dominated with western music. In early 2000 the production house Ogopa Deejays was formed. And this was to be the beginning of what is sometimes referred to as the “local music Revolution” that was experienced in East Africa.

Kwaito music is synonymous with South Africa, but in recent years, Kwaito musicians from Namibia have been staking serious claims to be the best. The Dogg is one of them. First, he won best newcomer at the Channel O Music Awards 2007 edition and the following year, won the best Kwaito award for 'Can You Feel It'. Armed with an army of die-hard fans, The Dogg is poised to take on Africa and become one of the most recognised artistes. Museke.com asked him about his plans and his music as well as a few stories that had him in the news recently (including the controversy surrounding Nigeria's Hip Hop World Awards).

Museke.com: How are you?
The Dogg: I am fine just busy

Museke.com: Can you tell us about your background and family?
I am the last born of four children, born as Martin Morocky in Zambia in 1986 and came to Namibia in 1990, grew up with my uncle, and in 1993 my father died of HIV AIDS but came to know of his death in 1995 just after the passing away of my mother to the same sickness, I enrolled at the university of Namibia but left because of my commitments to music.

Museke.com: How did you get the name The Dogg?
My name came from Gal Level, a Namibian RnB group, coz they use to compare my voice to a dog’s bark.

Exposé spoke to a couple of gospel artists and other major players in Namibia’s gospel industry about the awards and asked them questions of what their general perception is.
