MTV Africa Music Awards to Lagos in December 2010
The 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel will take the form of a stunning live music event and global television spectacular, featuring performances from contemporary African and international music giants and hosted by a major music celebrity. Artists from around the continent will battle to win a coveted MAMA trophy in one of twelve award categories including: Best Male, Best Female, Best Video, Best Group, Artist of the Year, Best Lusophone Act, Best Anglophone Act, Best Francophone Act, Song of the Year, Brand: New Act, Best International Act and MAMA Legend.
Telecommunications giant Airtel comes on board as the headline sponsor of the MTV Africa Music Awards 2010, signalling the telco’s profound commitment to African music and youth culture following its purchase of Zain Africa’s business operations earlier this year. The sponsorship was announced by Andre Beyers, Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Africa and Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa.

Mimi & other Ghanaian musicians headline World Cup bash in Pretoria
Mimi Divalish, Sarkodie, Samini, Obrafour join South African musicians in a World Cup bash at the start of the Mzansi Mundial, the 2010 FIFA World Cup which starts June 11th. The venue will be the Pretoria Show grounds. The event is being organized by FIFA in collaboration with Kofi Pinkrah media.
Mimi is a former Big Brother Africa Housemate and released a successful debut album called Music in me. Check out her two new singles Shayo and Kiss and tell. She is the only female artiste on the show.
Sarkodie is the reigning Ghanaian artiste of the year who also doubles as the best new African artiste at the recently ended Museke Online Africa Music Awards (MOAMas). Samini won the best dancehall song in the same MOAMAs while Obrafour, a Ghanaian rap legend, made a great comeback last year with his Kasiebo winning collaboration of the year at the Ghana Music Awards.
More African musicians named to perform at FIFA World Cup in South Africa
K'Naan, Freshlyground, Soweto Gospel Choir, Hugh Masekela, Mzansi Youth Choir have been named to the final line-up of African and South African artists for the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert. FIFA and Control Room, a producer of global music events, today made the announcement.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa (Mzansi Mundial) song has a new remix an the video premiered today, Thursday April 29 on MTV.
The third single from K'Naan sophomore album Troubadour, "Wavin' Flag" was chosen as the Coca-Cola's promotional anthem for the Mzansi Mundial in June this year. The Waving Flag Coca Cola celebration mix is the theme song for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa and part of EA Sports FIFA 2010 World Cup soundtrack. Shakira and Freshlyground's Time for Africa seems to be the official World Cup anthem, a song which samples a very popular track from Cameroun called Zangelewa.

Time for Africa - Shakira & Freshlyground (official video + lyrics)
The theme song for the World Cup in South Africa has been released and a video montage is available as well. The Mzansi Mundial anthem features South African group/band Freshlyground and Colombian singer, Shakira. The video for 'Time for Africa' shows some footage of the 2009 World Cup in Germany.
The song has been released to radio stations across the world this week and is available for download. Colombian singer Shakira and Cape Town's Freshlyground will perform the song live on June 10 at the official FIFA pre-tournament concert at Soweto Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as before the start of the World Cup final in Johannesburg on July 11, 2010.
Time for Africa samples Zangelewa, an army/marching song popular from the 80's in Cameroon. The song's lyrics are in the Fang language.

Soweto Gospel Choir and U2 collaborating for ESPN's World Cup coverage
South Africa's Grammy-winning choir Soweto Gosepl Choir once featured U2's Bono on their One track from their African Spirit album. This time, they are teaming up with U2 for some sound bites, or "inserts" about South Africa that will be used in ESPN's coverage of the World Cup. They also both performed at South Africa's anti-AIDS 46664 Concert benefit in 2003.

Commencing June 11, the network’s coverage will use specially recorded music by Soweto Gospel Choir recorded and filmed in South Africa, with music and live concert footage from U2’s record breaking concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., in October 2009. This collaboration will appear in every program throughout ESPN’s presentation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup including soccer highlights, match and studio coverage.
