Did you know Segun Odegbami's daughter is an international singer? May7ven, as she's called, is a Nigerian artist based in the UK who's been making waves on MTV and in other media. Her single, "Bo Aso La Ra Mi", made waves in Nigeria and earned her many awards and nominations. In this interview with Museke.com, May7ven talks about her career, her thoughts on the industry, performing for different audiences and reveals her love for drumming. Read the transcript below.

Museke.com: How are you doing?
May7ven: I am very well thank you and thanks for asking.

Museke.com: Can you tell us about your background and family?
May7ven: Yes certainly. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria to my wonderful parents. Dad was an international football star/player and mum an ex athlete who became a chartered accountant and university lecturer. Left Nigeria and relocated to UK with mum, brother and sister when I was 6 years old.

Museke.com: How did you get interested in music and when did you realize you wanted to take up a music career?
May7ven: I have always been interested in music. My earliest memories dates back to my 1st year on earth. I am certain I started walking early at 9 months because I wanted to dance so much. I have been singing since I cold open my mouth and started talking. However it wasn’t till the age of 8 that I homed in and started writing songs and then singing in my church choir.

One of the biggest African anthems recently has been JJC's "We are Africans". With its resounding cheer, Awoo!, it's becoming an anthem for the United States of Africa. Watch the music video for the original song at this link. JJC was in Nigeria to launch the "We are Africans" movement and this also gave birth to yet another remix of this viral hit. The "We are Africans" remix features Femi Kuti, Dagrin, Eldee, DJ Zeez, Kel, Ay.com, Moe Money & Ragga Remi. In the song, JJC sings "Let's go back to the roots, I wanna go back to the roots, let's take it back to the roots, Africans, Awoo!

Tribe X Entertainment, a marketing and events management company, named the 2008 Best US Based Promoter of the Year, by the Nigerian Entertainment Award Committee in New York, introduces; Green October: The Re-branding Of Nigeria through music.

Banky W, Bez, Cobhams, MI, Modele, Omawumi, Rooftop MCs, and Wordsmith have collaborated to produce a music video called "Maga no need pay" to support the Microsoft Internet Safety, Security and Privacy Initiative for Nigeria (MISSPIN). The musical collaboration project, which is led by one of the campaign ambassadors, Ohimai Amaeze, enjoys the benefit of having Cobhams Asuquo as producer. The song and video were released on February 3, 2010.

Some of the song's lyrics are "Maga no need pay for me to buy correct motor, for me to take make my dough". "No need to do yahoo-yahoo". Popular rapper, MI (Jude Abaga) asks "Are we cyber crime criminals? No, we are the mineral resources of our fatherland. We must rise and take the stand".
