Waayaha Cusub is a young Somali band based in Kenya. Waayaha Cusub means 'New Era'.
Waayaha Cusub consists of 11 Somali refugees based in Nairobi, Kenya. The group was formed in 2004. Some of the band members have fled from Kenya fearing being attacked by Somali conservatives who hate the kind of the music the band produces.
They have four albums to their credit with about 14 music videos. They have about 70 original recordings. They also recorded the soundtrack to the movie Ali & Awrala. They also have a comedy radio program that's aired in Somalia every Friday.
Waayaha Cusub sings about the war in Somalia and other issues like HIV/AIDS, freedom of speech, and women's rights. The female members wear trousers and their hair is uncovered (such behaviors are not easily welcome by the majority of the Somali People who are Muslims.)
Some of their songs are Somalia, Freedom, Saaxiib, Hooyo, Jacayl, Dhalinyaro, Murti, Birmagaydo, Hanti, etc
