Rooftop MCs is one of the leading hip-hop groups of our times. The name “Rooftop MCs” is derived from the scripture verse in the Bible , Matthew 10:27, which states that “What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the Rooftops”. Their medium of communication is Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a genre of music typically consisting of a rhythmic style of speaking called rap, over backing beats performed on a turntable by a DJ.
They started their singing career 8 years ago and released their first album in 2004 titled “Shock Therapy“. The critically acclaimed album contained hit tunes like 'Shock Therapy', ‘Feel this (remix)’. In 2008, they released another album titled "Minority Report“. This album boasts of great songs like 'Lagimo‘, 'Elenu‘ and is a reflection of the skill and expertise working with renowned producers like Cobhams Asuquo, Frenzy among others.
Rooftop MCs do not see themselves as Gospel rappers. Rather they see themselves as rappers preaching the message of redemption, salvation and the light through their music. They are called to spiritual and secular audiences alike. They live to spread the gospel and also praise GOD in exciting, unconventional ways. They have recognized that there is a gap which is not being filled; that gap of good music that can positively change lives, enrich souls and portray Christianity as an exciting way of life.
Their 2009 album featured mega-hit, For my life.
