Hook 2x
We fought to get off the slave yard
Now we fight to get us a green card
Why do we work for this stuff so hard?
How you living and you working grave yard?
Verse 1
Stand for days
At the American consulate
They're running late
Push back yout interview date
So you won't stay
They ask for a bank state
Meant to bring one
Forgot
Now they close gates
Bills ain't paid
Money spent on visa fees
You crying
Landlady standing vis a vis
C'est la vie mon amis
Ask Uncle Kofi
Maybe he's got connections at the embassy
Used to be with this lady from Tennessee
If she says the word
"Hello NYC"
Immigration says
"This is JFK
How long do you plan to stay in the USA?"
Till you get real rich
But you say 30 days
She knows you lying
But there's nothing that she can say
Grants you entry
Fingerprints
You say chesse
Now freeze in your short sleeves in their 30 degrees
Repeat Hook 2x
Verse 2
Uh oh uh oh
No pocket money
Can't call home to ask Mummy or Daddy
See they used all they had on plane fare
So to run game on them won't be playing fair
Whatever! Mama, Dada, am out of cash
And so what! Get a dam job! Get off your ass!
We expecting a return on investment
And Uncle Kofi said you should start to pay rent
DD D D DD D Damn!
DD D D DD D Damn!
Can't get a job without social security
A friend takes pity, says
Use ma I.D.
Thanks, but um, I don't look like you
And I'm 6 foot
Your I.D. says 5'2"
So I get I'll just get paid under table
Wonder what's on TV
Oh no cable!
Repeat Hook 2x
Verse 3
Culture shock
No one's really friendly
Especially if you don't drive a Bentley
If you a hustler, go on then Jay-Z
You'll find a way to sell honey to bees
To be legal, you've got to marry
Or uh uh, you could join the navy
But you don't want to kill Iraqis
Cuz life is worth more than some car keys
So I guess you've got limited options
Uncle Sam don't do adoption
Unless you a basketball or soccer star
Footballer, aha, afei no worekasa
Could be a superstar like Floetry
But of course, you would need dope poetry
So you get 10 grand and holla "What it do"
Meet me downtown mami and say I do
Repeat Hook 4x
Verse 4
Kil-li-ling
Someone is calling you
Homeland security interview
But um!
The citizen is in a bad mood
She and her significant other argued
"Hell naw, I ain't going nowhere with you
Unless you buy me some new clothes and shoes"
DD D D DD D Damn!
"What?"
Ok, ok, ok, ok, ma'am
Green card application approved
Your lifestyle has even improved
But you far removed
From commununity
Culture is to consume
Buy security
Alarm system
But it is watching you
Like TV
Remote controlling you
Then 1 day you remember why you came here
To make some money, go home and share
Repeat Hook 4x

I must get myself a copy of this green card album! Wanlov is simply the rockas...and as for that smallest time song, its quite good. Who is the Anjolee woman?
So he followed Samini's advice of repatriation eh? Cool things, we are following, dont worry! Right behind ya :)
yeah I am feeling that Smallest time song too.
Smallest time o, smallest time o, smallest time o!
good stuff
Wanlov followed Samini's advice on repatriation and he's gone! :-)
Anjolee is on Myspace
listen to Green card on Wanlov's Myspace player
lol
So do many people still marry for Green Cards? Jamani. I find that tres hilarious. So when do they find time to marry for love? Africans, be proud of where you are from! U dont need a green card, all you need is Swazi citizenship. Im happy to arrange that for you at a small fee.
hehe:) Nice one by OdO Baako - One Love - Wanlov! :-)
Smallest time o, smallest time o, smallest time o! Wanlov set out on his journey and the smallest time is just elongating. Latest news says that he is still on the East Coast (US) because of an expired passport. Matter be this! Anyway, Wanlov got his green card o and I think he married for love, he stayed two more years in the US cuz his friend (who now is his wife) was carrying his baby.
News here
So Wanlov decided not to do his Green Card and he is lugging his wife and son home to Ghana..Aww, that, by my standards, is real love on both their parts. Lekker! We wish them all the best. Hopefully he will continue making music in Ghana and furnishing us with the goodness! :-)
Passport and Travel issues jo. We have all been there.
Hmm...so if Wanlov were to get his green card, he would have citizenship in 3 continents :-)
I am loving this 'greencard' song..
Love-me-some his old songs too..his words selection (lyrics) always reminds me of Augusco + Adisco boys from back in my days during fun fairs etc..ah well he is one of 'em.. no wonder he rocks!
Chale do u know the Odadee guy(Seven Xavier) who was promoting 'Roar Entertainment crew' (Wanlov and Akwadaa nyame etc) on the net??
If so what happened to him and his own songz??
Yeah I know Seven Xavier. I don't think he has released an album and I think he mostly does beats. Wanlov himself never released an album until this year but had been releasing singles for like 6 years. I think they are both working on Roar Entertainment and have strong ties to Kwaku T the Black Star (from Big Brother Africa), Bosco of Pure Africanz, Boya Dunn, Akwadaa Nyame, etc
Wanlov is now with Pidgen music (same people that represent King Ayisoba and Soulfege in Ghana)
Linda Annan of Obaasema magazine reviewed Wanlov's Green card album recently.
Wanlov the Kubolor Finally Releases his Green Card Album
By LINDA A. ANNAN
The humorous image of a Caucasian woman clad in a white fitted dress tightly hugging a small framed African man with the words green card, passport, money and love balloons in the background clearly tells you all you wondered about Wanlov's album title, Green Card.
The CD, which might appear to be all about his immigration struggles, is not. Sure, it reflects his experiences – both in Ghana and the U.S. – but also uplifts and empathizes with others in difficult challenges; perhaps a result of what he has endured?
This 20-track album is enlivened with titles spelled in stereotypical Ghanaian words like "Supa Chompia" and "Choptime." Coupled with stories reminiscence of childhood experiences by most Ghanaians, Wanlov does a great job of pulling listeners into his memories through his songs.
His love for Ghana is exhibited throughout the album as almost every song seems to be Ghana-inspired. Some of the fine tunes found in "Choptime" and Chinese Kokonte" are tweaked with "jama-like" rhythms – beats used during interschool sporting activities in Ghana – while others like "In Ghana" mildly echo with traditional sounds.
It almost becomes a fun album that demonstrates his eclectic style.
I will review after I cop the album
I wanted to release this on my label, but I'm a ******* idiot. Jah blessings, Wanlov.
wanlov is a genius, and he touches on some important issues. nice songwriting my brother
