When one thinks of Namibian kwaito, one thinks THE DOGG. Also known as the KWAITO MASTER and christened as Moroky , THE DOGG has taken the Namibian music industry by storm with his ear-catching lyrics and body-moving beats. Born on the 31st of March 1983 in the town of Maheba, Zambia, he was repatriated back home to Namibia where he began his formal education at Onayena Primary School situated in East Ondangwa, a town in the north of Namibia. Being the youngest of four children, his aspiration as a child was to become a mechanical engineer although music remained to be dormant passion at the time.
In 1997, he came to the capital city of Namibia and began his secondary schooling at Augustineum Secondary School and after graduating from high school, he chose to study for a Marketing Degree at the University of Namibia.
After his 1st year of tertiary education, THE DOGG chose to leave university and pursue a career in music after realizing that his passion for music could not lie dormant any longer. Showing his distinctive characteristics of determination and decisiveness, he chose to use the money meant to pay his tuition, to pay for his music productions. He obtained his first sponsorship from a lady he refers to as “Ma” and when asked to describe their encounter he says, “She came up to me after one of my first performances in Oshakati and asked where she could buy my album. After explaining that I was still working on finances to release an album she chose to help me in my endeavor and I have come to believe that Ma is one of the few, who saw my true potential from the start and always believed in me.”
After some time, THE DOGG released his first album entitled “Shimaliwa Osatana” meaning “Money is the root of all evil”. The title of the album and the lyrics of his songs such as “Jesus otati”, helped to portray THE DOGG’s character, which is one of a person that is always prepared to speak his mind. After the success of his first album, in late 2003 he won the Sanlam music award as “Artist of the year 2003”.
From that moment on, The Dogg has been reigning the Namibian music industry and by the end of 2004, he had 3 more awards to his name, which were “Best Kwaito”, “Best selling Artist” and once again “Artist of the year 2004”. Being the hardworking man he is, after the release of that album, he began work on his second solo album entitled, “Take Out Yo Gun” which rocketed the music charts and maintained a blasting effect on the radio waves with hits such as “The Dogg Is Back”, “Take Out Yo Gun”, “Ngenge Ndasi” and the rest of the tracks did
equally well.
In early 2005 THE DOGG strengthened his grip on his career by acquiring the services of the music management company, Kool Productions, and has never looked back. THE DOGG, now also known as TEEDEE, released his 3rd and latest album titled, “Introducing TeeDee” which has been topping the music charts with songs such as “Baby Don’t Go”, “I Like It Like This” “The Dogg Is Here To Stay” and “Inakusha”.
Since its release in May 2006, “Introducing TeeDee” has been rated as the number one top selling album for four consecutive months and counting. Not long after the CD Launch, TeeDee headed for France to give the Frenchmen a true taste of Namibian music. After his return, he held a “Welcome Back Party” and “A Party for Kids & Teens”, which was initiated for the children because of his undying love for children.
Up to date THE DOGG has opened concerts for Artists such as Mzekezeke, Malaika, Mafikizolo, Mandoza, Dr. Victor & The Rasta Rebels, Brown Dash, Brickz, Ishmael and the list goes on.
Proving more success to his name, his record label called, “Mshasho” meaning “Shotgun” was glad to nurture, guide and make known to the music community of a talented artist known as Sunny Boy. He states that there is more in store with hidden talent, under the belt of Mshasho, waiting to be unleashed with the quote, “It’s only a matter of time.”
His successes in 2006 were not only in his musical career but also in his business career as his “Mshasho” clothing line expanded, attracting the Namibian community to astounding measures.
THE DOGG has now his own sms-line where he is inundated with text massages from fans and die-heart supporters alike.
THE DOGG has a bright and vibrant future ahead and perhaps it’s true:
“The Dogg Is Here To Stay”.
