Kalamashaka - Jamhuri Day, Playoffs

Msanii_XL - Kenya - Fri, 2008-05-16 19:22
So, the crew that set it off, is about to drop an album -Jamhuri Day, I got myself a promo track in addition to the track I heard( from minute 25) on this African hiphop radio show in Holland....and it is dope, dope.... dope, I feel I should temper it, because on one hand its not like they doing anything out of this world, new or revolutionizing their sound but nah if I'm bumping to this and I'm furiously nodding my head, and enjoying this..then thats dope to me...so about the tracks..

The first one Featuring Yvonne with chiz'n brain on the boards...Kama kills it, he sets it of lovely that was ill...since 'constantly kwenye kona' ...his flow is a bit faster these days, but i mess with that, they do better job sandwiching roba, he has been lack luster for the last few tracks i have heard, but the star? Vigeti aka Representative wa mangandula ....obliterates it " hardcore kutoka vidole za mguu mpaka utosi" ...Filthy. roll na wakamba unaelewa vile navyosema?/ yaani ndumba haarifu...

'Wanabonga tu' is another excellent produced track..crap I went overboard describing the first track...but this is an excellent track look out for it on bnts namba 11.

I think personally Vigeti is a sick emcee, the sickest emcee in KE period (I mean this all said knowing i have never heard how he would hold down an album by himself which that in itself is disappointing ..but ehhh), but ninja kills each and every track he is in i can't say i have heard a weak verse...

The playoffs started with bang, but it seems like they are fizzling out, off the jump I don't care for Boston... but I can say objectively they are incredibly overrated team, none of the leaders of that squad went anywhere further than Conference championship, that says a lot about them..., they had the best record in the L, but they were pushed to 7 games by an 8th seed that did not even post a .500 record, and cannot even win on the road??? disgusting... perhaps they close out the series today....perhaps, but bron is not about to let that happen, so will see about that tonight. The spurs are a whiney, hacking ass squad...cot damn Duncan has never committed a foul ever, and horry is goon, disgust....am surprised bruce lui kang bowen has been quiet, the head gooon himself, even role players act like they haven't fouled anyone...The hornets are doing a good job, but if they don't have David west then its wrap come Monday...Oh and CP3 is an excellent point guard. I hope the MVP and LA close out tonight, fuck a u tah(except dwill lol)...boozer has been abused all series by odom, his defense is horrible...

Africain music - Fri, 2008-05-16 11:50

Tshwane-

Quick and simple to assemble:
The assembly of the entire Abōd single unit structure can be completed in one day.

High-quality yet affordable and enduring structure (20-30 year durability) with a projected low cost via mass manufacturing

Easily personalized: Abōd is available with a wide range of readily installed upgrade/add-on options, including multiple colors and finishes (some can be painted). The Abōd layouts can accommodate kitchen units, toilet/shower/bath units, cooking units, loft expansions, end walls, window-walls, small-business walls, unique door designs, overhangs, flooring choices, closet units, and much more.

Easily expanded: Connect two or more Abōd units together in various shapes to create a larger home structure.

Secure and permanent yet easily and quickly disassembled and moved with a special security tool by the owner: This is especially vital where land can only be leased, not owned.

Distinctive, nature-based, engineered shape: The Catenary Arch appears often in nature. It is simple and structurally sound but also aesthetically pleasing.

Compact (cost-effective) to deliver: By truck, ship or plane, the “home in a box” includes the entire structure (unassembled) that fits into a box (1.2193m x 3.6576m x 0.6096m) .

Readily manufactured in large quantities: All components are made from stock materials, readily acquired locally wherever possible, in most regions of the world.

Low fire risk: The Abōd is comprised of primarily non-combustible materials, so the risk of fire is minimal.

See building process here.

Greetings from Luanda

Likembe - Fri, 2008-05-16 02:43

I occasionally scan the comments sections of older posts to see if anyone's dropped by that I might have missed. This post occasioned the following comment, which I pass on to you. Toke's numerous blogs are a treasure trove of Angolan music, both contemporary and classic.
Hello Mr. John B., Milwaukee from Wisconsin, USA:
greetings from Angola!

Here's Toke fingers from Luanda, Angola.

I've founded your beautiful place, with that incredible familiar sound name (Likembe), and your two articles about Angolan music.

First I would like to express my pride with the inclusion in your links of kuduro of Kuduro.podomatic.com, my junior site where Kuduro music is ready to be downloaded.

Unfortunately, all my files have recently been deleted or damaged by the server, and I'm restarting my slowly local internet process of uploading to the ftp.

I'm learning in the way, in barely two years of internet blogging, being a junior in this activity.

With all respect I would like to share with your beautiful space some of my non commercial work, devoted purely to the world wide spread of Angolan music from different ages:

#1 Kuduro.podomatic.com. Straight from CR-R street Kuduro sellers to your hard drive, the Angolan Ghetto musicians that have no commercial contract but that everybody is listening in the parties, taxis, buses, or in the street - Kuduro rules in Luanda's chaotic automobile traffic.

#2 Milongoyakissange.podomatic.com. Traditional folkloric music from Angola, sometimes mixed with urban modern angolan music that recovered traditional instruments.

#3 Muximangola.blogspot.com. The first signs of Angolan urban music from the 50's to early 70's. From an accoustic beguine to the electrification of traditional Angolan melodies. The anti-colonial-fascist singers.

#4 Trincheirafirme.podomatic.com. On 11 November 1975 the Angolan nation was born under gun shots in the south, in the north, and through the quickly abandon of former colonies by the Portuguese administration and people joining the Portuguese oillets revolution that ended 48 years of fascist dictatorship on 25 of April 1974. Between 24 April 1974 and 11 November Angolan musical production reflected the spirit of the time and was political prolific. That's what we can hear in Trincheira Firme Podcast.

#5 Radiosambilas.podomatic.com. Angolan music from the last 33 years, celebrating Angolan popular musical tastes in all genres.

#6 Menhamazumbi.blogspot.com. Mainly Angolan music with some very rare Angolan records. Other countries' music included.

#7 Vilamorena.blogspot.com. Mainly Portuguese and Angolan anti-fascist music.

#8 Afrikya.podomatic.com, Afrikyamar.podomatic.com, Afrikyaabril.podomatic.com, Afrikya.blogspot.com. Afrikya is a Sunday morning weekly radio show broadcast from Luanda's radio LAC (Luanda Antena Comercial) - the first private radio station after independence - conducted by Maria Luísa, who hosts and directs the Afrikya show from 30 years now, the last 16 years as LAC manager-director. Musical and political ways of Africa.

#9 Animadao.podomatic.com. Angolan and non-Angolan music that can be danced at the discos, now days, every nights, by the almost five millions Luanda's inhabitants.

#10 Neblinametal.podomatic.com, Neblinametal.blogspot.com. Neblina is the first and only Angolan rock band to feature a commercial independent rock CD at 26 January 2006, called Innocence Falls In Decay.

#11 Mptyhead.podomatic.com, Mptyhead.blogspot.com. M'pty Head is the second most prominent Angolan rock band with conceptual internet releases and extraordinary live shows).

#12 Letmikesing.podomatic.com, tessalonia.blogspot.com. Tessalonissenses is the name of the great and only Angolan techno wired band that matters.

I've anothers podocast shows that are not in this subject: Angolan music. But please, try these two ones: Timothyleary.podomatic.com/ and Bluewave.podomatic.com.

I would like to make an article presenting your accurate articles over Angolans music to Angolan Portuguese readers. Hope your agreement.

By the way: that's right! You're right. Since 2002 Angolan nation is in stable military peace and Angolans are proud that they achieved this goal by themselves, after long years of foreign interference. So, national pride, both for the nation and for the tribal origin, is the general feeling.

And 110 $110US per gallon is not hurting. No, it isn't. It provides a 25% economic growth per year.

Thank you for your time and excuses for the length of the explanation in these non corrected almost English words.

All the best to you,
hope everything's going right.
;)

Tod A: the grumpy global griot

Sound Roots - Thu, 2008-05-15 15:43
CD REVIEW
Firewater: The Golden Hour
(Bloodshot Records)

I love life -- even with the earthquakes, floods, and political turmoil. But that's not to say I can't appreciate a good escapist message, especially one delivered with the deep growly angst that Tod A pours into The Golden Hour's opening track, "Borneo." He sings: "Gonna set my sails for the virgin soil / You know I don't wanna die for the price of oil / ... So I'm getting out of here." Whether Borneo is really an oasis from conflict and stupidity, he sure makes a compelling musical case with the song's jungle beat, jangly guitar solo, and great backing vocals by the Levantine Boys Choir.

[mp3] Firewater: Borneo

The whole album is something of a travelogue of the adventures of Tod A (formerly of Cop Shoot Cop), the soundtrack to his brilliant (but not recently updated) blog postcards.blogs.com: "Everything started off smoothly enough, as everything usually does before going horribly wrong. Disasters of any magnitude rarely seem to come with any huge preamble."

On the album he sings of disasters and adventures -- rooted in his travels, during which he was "drugged, robbed, detained, and later struck down with severe intestinal problems," finally calling a halt to the whole misadventure when "I was forced to end my trip at the Khyber Pass on the Afghan border, due to general ill health and the unnerving likelihood of kidnapping." As he sings on "3-Legged Dog": "I've been down so long that comin' up is giving me the bends."

[mp3] Firewater: 3-Legged Dog

Like any good storyteller, he turns his misadventures into great tales, incorporating a wide variety of musical styles he's encountered: Bhangra on "This Is My Life" and "Bhangra Bros," Jewish niggun on "Some Kind of Kindness," and various shades of swing noir. Tying it all together are his gritty, bluesy vocals, and a deep world-punk sensibility that will appeal to fans of bands like Gogol Bordello and Kultur Shock.

Imagine, perhaps, a twisted South Asian version of Paul Simon's Graceland as reimagined by the secret musical lovechild of David Bowie and Tom Waites. Yeah, that about sums up this amazing release, which may have only one foot under the umbrella of "world music" but has already become one of my favorite albums of 2008.

Chameleone, MTN fall out after Akon UG concert

Rafshizzle - Ugandan entertainment - Thu, 2008-05-15 14:38
BIG IS BIG: As you can see, Chameleone was smitten with Akon and there was no way he was going to say no to sharing the same stage with world's number one, moreover with Shs5 million bonus from Celtel

That’s right folks, MTN Uganda has officially dumped Jose Chameleone.
And the lanky star is “not heartbroken,” so he told us.
It happened like this...
Chameleone claims that he has been going to MTN for his allowance of four months but in vain. So when other telecommunication companies offered him cash to perform he had no choice. Therefore he ended up performing at the Celtel-sponsored Rock with Akon concert where many MTN staff members were in attendance at Lugogo. Then all of a sudden, Chameleone was singing praises for Celtel and even asked the audience to wave their Celtel bandanas as he performed.
One of the MTN staff who was near us was mad at Chameleone’s stunt and even added, “That one is finished, we made the decision (to chuck him) long time ago and now he has just hit the final nail in his own coffin…”
But Chameleone told Rafshizzle that he has no regrets because he will be a free agent who can perform for anybody at any time with no strings attached.
Whatever happens, folks, we shall be availing you with the full break-up drama as it comes in.

Obama gets a Boulevard in Masaka

Rafshizzle - Ugandan entertainment - Thu, 2008-05-15 14:34
Give us an O! Give us a B! Give us an A! Give us an M! Give us an A!
Who have you got? Obama, that’s who.
Surely, you must have seen many cars in Kampala with a sticker bearing this name on their windscreens and you could also know that he is an American presidential aspirant.
But Masaka people value Barrack Obama more than you could think.
Actually, they have decided to name one of their roads after him.
Our sources in the central district told us that residents of Kitigondo in Masaka, led by Kampala businessman Frank Gashumba, have named one of the roads in the area after the democrat and now the road is called Barrack Obama Boulevard.
The road leads to Gashumba’s farm in the area and he said, “Obama has shown us all that someone can come from nowhere and give the entire world hope. He makes you proud to be black and instead of naming our roads with funny names we should learn appreciating our own heroes as blacks.”
So, Mr Obama, you have a vote in Masaka although it doesn't count.

Akon in Kenya this month

Rafshizzle - Ugandan entertainment - Thu, 2008-05-15 14:27
ON HIS WAY THERE: Akon promised to perform in Kenya very soon

Akon, finally, performed in Ugandan but is there any chance that our brothers and sisters in Kenya will ever see him?
We’ll soon find out because Akon said so and he even met with the Kenyan promoters at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
A source told Rafshizzle that the Senegalese songster held a 20-minute meeting with the organisers of the Akon Kenya concert on Friday morning and the result was positive.
Even during a press conference at Celtel House Akon said he had suggested to fly straight to Kenya after Uganda but “those guys (Kenyan promoters) said they could not put together the show in time so I’ll find another time. We’ll go to Kenya very soon, why not.”
Is there a better way than hearing it from the horse’s mouth, Kenyans?
Moreover, a source has told us that Akon is set to perform in Kenya on May 22, which will be a Thursday.
“But that date could still change,” said the source.
The source added that Akon told the Kenyan promoters that he will be busy on weekends of May so the only option was to hold the concert on a weekday.
Good luck, Kenyans!

Divizionz now on CNN

Rafshizzle - Ugandan entertainment - Thu, 2008-05-15 14:24
When we switched on our TV sets, last week, we were in for a surprise.
Yes, we’d heard Divizionz was at the Berlin film festivals early this year and that even Don Mugisha was interviewed on DWTV.
But it turns out the feature film has a little something more and it’s bigger than we probably thought.
Yes, the Divizionz’s director/co-producer Don Mugisha and co-producer James Tayler were interviewed by CNN as well. The first part of the two-part interview was aired last week with both producers explaining the storyline of the film.
The interview was screened on CNN’s Screening Room show and the final part will air early next month.
Divizionz, which just won two awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, stars local singers Bobi Wine and Buchaman.
And as soon as we saw this interview on CNN we simply said: “It’s 100% bad news…”
